Step 2
I finished digging the hole today, installed the liner and the filter and filled it up with water1 I have a pond at last! It's not completely finished yet-- I need to rearrange the rocks to hide the liner better, add more rocks and plants and eventually some fish. I'm happy with the way it's turning out though!

Cool, on hiding the liner, the tip I get from the first photo you posted to announce your were going to do it... note the rock on that pond is at the edge and over hangs. You can get a really cool faux concrete paver stone at Lowes that looks just like flat stone for cheap and it has natural shapes just like the stone in the other photo. It could slightly over hang thus hiding the liner really well.

Thanks for the advice-- I've got a million rocks in the backyard, so I won't need to buy any fake ones. I'll eventually lay the flat rocks around the perimeter (with an overhang) and add rocks on top of those. I've read that the overhang is important, not just for hiding the liner, but for giving the fish a shadowed place to rest when the full sun is beating down.
